MARY HICKS METAL ARTS

metalwork by Mary Hicks

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

Mary Hicks has been an artist for over 30 years in a variety of mediums: oil pastels, chalk pastels, oil paints, photography, and most recently metal (copper, iron, brass) and enamelling. She has worked solely in the area of sculpture the past several years in order to pursue an interest and passion for working with metal. The past two years she has begun to enamel and incorporates enamelled copper panels into her sculptures and creates enamelled art jewellery. Enamelling provides the perfect blend of brilliant colours fired onto hammered and etched metal pieces. Repeated firings reveal a depth and clarity of colour which illuminates beautiful patterns & textures etched into the metal beneath the glass.

She has produced a new small sculpture series incorporating woven copper panels, woven copper elements, enamelled copper panels, mixed media, and woven photographs. She enjoys the exploration of depth, shapes, colour, texture and intricate details that comes from working with metal, photographs, enamel, and mixed media. The on-going study of various metal and enamelling techniques continues to ignite her passion to create new works of art. To see Mary’s recent work visit: www.maryhicksmetalarts.com
